FEB 22 - WHO IS X AND Y IS HE HERE?: UNLOCKING THE POWER OF ALGEBRA This workshop is designed to equip secondary math teachers with skills and intervention strategies needed to better support students struggling with Pre-algebra, Algebra I, and Algebra II concepts. APRIL 3 - THE DDI WORKSHOP: DOABLE DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION Differentiated Instruction (DI) provides a solid framework for teachers to address students’ specific learning needs. Designed with the classroom teacher in mind, this interactive workshop will provide the basics for understanding the Who, What, When, Why and How of DI. Best of all, it will incorporate five of the most “practical” research-based strategies accompanied with handouts that provide step-by-step procedures to guide the teacher’s lesson planning process for Doable Differentiated Instruction (DDI). A learning lab guru will preside over a day of manipulatives and interventions. This day will begin with a short overview of how research-based strategies help at-risk students maximize their learning styles to master concepts. The rest of the day will be spent with paper, scissors, card stock, computers, and glue sticks -- creating your own manipulatives to have ready for the start of school! LOOKING FROM THE INSIDE OUT: THE ED VS BD DILEMMA Many educators are caught in a dilemma of uncertainty when a child presents with emotional and/or behavioral issues. This workshop addresses the difference between students with emotionally-based needs (ED) vs. students who present with behaviorally-based symptoms (BD). In order to develop the most appropriate, empirically-based intervention strategies, we must know the difference! Family Education Workshops DE-MYSTIFYING OUR CHILDREN: HELPING FAMILIES UNDERSTAND LEARNING DIFFERENCES This workshop provides a general overview of learning disorders and attentional problems. The overall emphasis is to help families better understand why their child struggles, what it feels like to live with that struggle, and how they can help. The overview includes the specific nature of language-based, non-verbal, and/or attention-related disorders. Simulation exercises provide caregivers with an 'Ah-Ha' experience.
